Saturday Night Smoke

I spent yesterday evening at a friend's house, actually behind his house in his woods, where we sat around a campfire smoking and talking.

Fine beverages, fine tobaccos, and a roaring fire seem to go perfectly together. Perhaps the Saturday Night Smoke should become a regular thing. I imagine that over time a small but regular group could be built around such a ritual.

Living in an age in which tobacco of all forms is frowned upon, and in which it is virtually impossible to smoke within public gathering places, perhaps we lovers of tobacco need to create our own spaces, our own places where tobacco is not only welcomed but celebrated. Spaces from which the non-smoking public is banned.

Pipes, cigars, and cigarettes can all be used in moderation, can all be used with elegance and grace. While every smoker may have his or her preference, certainly all must be welcoming of each other if our pleasure is to survive the public attacks upon it. Saturday Night Smokes just might be a perfect gathering for some.
